The Stables at Bignor Park provide a charming and characterful setting for wedding receptions in West Sussex. This restored 18th-century complex of five rooms is arranged around a large cobbled courtyard, combining historic detail with a warm and intimate atmosphere.
On one side, the courtyard creates a welcoming space for drinks and gathering, while the Coach Store opens through French doors onto the Quadrangle – a secluded walled garden that offers a unique indoor and outdoor setting for dining, celebrations or evening relaxation.
The Croquet Lawn at Bignor Park is a spacious and secluded setting for marquee and tipi wedding receptions in West Sussex, set just beside the main house.
Ideal for larger celebrations, the lawn can accommodate up to 250 guests within a marquee or tipi, offering a flexible space to create a fully bespoke reception. Working with one of our trusted marquee suppliers, you can design a setting that reflects your style, from relaxed festival-inspired weddings to elegant, formal occasions.
At Bignor Park we care deeply about the environment. We have converted over nine hundred acres of farmland and woodland to organic and undertake several conservation projects here, including wildflower meadow restoration (in the fields below the house), heathland and wetland creation. We provide a habitat for over a quarter of the UK population of the rare European field cricket and have a positive carbon footprint (we sequester more carbon dioxide than we generate).
We also have a Sustainable Floral Composting Site where your wedding flowers and foliage can be left to decompose naturally.

Location, location. We are situated in West Sussex at the foot of the South Downs, with spectacular, panoramic views from Barlavington Down to Chanctonbury Ring. We are in between the lovely, historic market towns of Petworth and Arundel. Chichester and the South Coast are only twenty minutes drive away. And close to us are the classic Sussex hamlets and villages of Bignor, Sutton, Bury and West Burton, the Roman Villa and picturesque downland churches. Not forgetting Fittleworth, with its national award-winning village shop and café.
For your dining reception, the Stables offer a range of flexible options. The two main rooms, the Coach Store and Stove Room, can seat around 100 guests, with additional spaces including the Tack Room and Stalls arranged around a charming cobbled courtyard.
Tucked behind the Coach Store, the Quadrangle provides a secluded walled garden—ideal for drinks, dancing or relaxing. It can also be covered with a bespoke stretch canopy to seat around 100 guests for dining.
For larger celebrations, a marquee can be attached to the Coach Store in the courtyard to accommodate up to 150 guests. Alternatively, a standalone marquee on the Croquet Lawn allows for weddings of up to 200 guests.
Bignor Park is licensed for civil ceremonies. Outdoor ceremonies take place in the Greek Loggia, a beautiful stone setting within the formal gardens, accommodating up to 150 guests. Indoor ceremonies can also be held in the Coach Store for up to 60 guests.
Yes, we only host one wedding per weekend on select dates from spring to autumn. And with two days before and afterwards for set-up and take down, your wedding really will be something special and unique to you, promising unforgettable memories.
